Hugh "Faris" Brooks

Hugh “Faris” Brooks. 74 of Jonesboro, Arkansas, passed from this life into the resting arms of Jesus on Friday, November 4, 2016 at his Bono home. He was born on December 30 1941 in Jonesboro, Arkansas to the late Hugh T. and Gertrude H. Hayes Brooks. He served his country in the Navy and was stationed aboard the USS Polk County. Moving to Michigan in mid 60’s he worked for General Motors in the maintenance department until he transferred to Oklahoma City in 1979 where he worked until his retirement in August 1993. He moved back to Bono in 1994. Faris was the owner and operator of Brooks Alternator and Starter in Jonesboro where you could always find him. He loved fishing, playing his guitar, harps, singing country music and visiting and talking with friends and customers.The family would like to give a special thanks to Craighead county Veterans Honor guard, Billy Jack Simpson, American Legion Auxiliary picket post #21, Home Health Professionals, Inc. and St. Bernards Hospice.Survivors include; his wife of 52 years, Janis McElrath Brooks of the home; three sons: Billy Joe of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, John Gregory (Kristen of Coldwater, Mississippi, and Faris Jeffery Brooks (Hattie) of Bono, Arkansas; one daughter: Debra of Little Rock, Arkansas; eleven grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and a host of other family and friends.He was preceded in death by; his parents; one sister: Billie June; one nephew: SSgt Paul F. Brooks.Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 10, 2016 at 1:00 pm at Revival Tabernacle Church, 8196 Highway 63 North, Bono with Brother Dale Blackwell officiating. Burial will follow at Lawrence Memorial Cemetery, Walnut Ridge under the direction of Faith Funeral Service. The family will receive visitors on Thursday at the church from 10:30 am until service time. Pallbearers: Craighead County Veterans Honor Guard and Taps by Billy Jack Simpson.
