Jon N Martinsen

Jon Nils Martinsen, 80, of Wynne, Arkansas, born in Niles, Michigan on September 7, 1936, to Nils and Josephine Martinsen went to his eternal home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, June 17, 2017.He is preceded in death by; his father: Nils Martinsen; his mother: Josephine Cisler Martinsen, one brother: David Martinsen; and one sister: Nanette Adelsperger.He is survived by; his loving and devoted wife: Gayle Cain Martinsen of the home; his children: Carolyn Chalifoux of Kissimmee, Florida, Dawn Verbancsics of California, Veronica Martinsen Bates of Richardson, Texas, Mitchell McCuan of Arrow Rock, Missouri, Rhonda Jones of Houston, Texas, Lisa Crabtree of Cottageville, South Carolina, Melissa Wilson of Chesterton, Indiana, and Lorie Thomas of Valparaiso, Indiana; his sisters: Patricia Hoagland of Kearney, Nebraska and Mary Jo Martinsen of Wynne, Arkansas; his sister-in-law: Chris Martinsen of Illinois; eleven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a host of other family and friends.Jon attended the University of Kentucky and graduated from Indiana Technical College in Fort Wayne, Indiana with degrees in mechanical and civil engineering. He passed the Indiana Professional Engineer exam to become a licensed professional engineer. Employed in the Energy Division of US Steel Gary Works for thirty years, he acted as superintendent of the Fuel and Electronics department. Indiana Governor Orr appointed Jon to the Pressure Vessel Board Committee and after serving ten years, he was awarded the highest distinction in Indiana, the Sagamore of the Wabash, by Governor Orr. He also acted as past chairman of the American Iron and Steel Institute. After retiring from US Steel, he was VP of Engineering for Chemical Controls Company in Hobart, Indiana. Jon then formed Marcon Consulting where he consulted to a firm in Montreal, Canada and US Steel. Jon’s greatest accomplishment in life was his dedication and faith to Jesus Christ. He retired in 1997 while living in Wynne where he has been a faithful member of Wynne Baptist Church.After being informed of his terminal illness, he asked the Lord to take his burden. The Lord gave him peace and rest until he took him to his eternal home in heaven, at which time he was surrounded by his loved ones. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial be made to the Lottie Moon Foundation in care of Wynne Baptist Church or Good Shepherd Food Pantry in Wynne. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Wynne Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Woodman Cemetery, McCrory, Arkansas under the direction of Faith Funeral Service. The family will receive visitors on Tuesday at the church from 1:00 p.m. until service time.
