Jerry Guarnett

Mr. Hershell Gerald (Jerry) Guarnett, age 81, of Pocahontas, Arkansas, passed away Sunday February 3, 2013, following a prolonged illness at his home. He was born December 10, 1931 in Hunter, AR to the late Lawrence Martin Guarnett and Ethel Elizabeth Ward Guarnett. He was preceded in death by a son, daughter and granddaughter, a brother Myron Guarnett, and a sister Junetta Crissman. Widely known as Jerry, he is survived by his wife of 44 years, Lois Funcell Guarnett, two sons: Gregory Guarnett of Canada and David Vives of Plant City, Florida, one daughter: Sheila Vives of the home; one sister, Mescal Cothran; several grandchildren and great grandchildren: nephews and nieces: and a host of other family and friends. Mr. Guarnett was a member of the Freedom Church, a retired realtor and a US Navy Korean War Veteran. He was a member of the American Legion Post 6 and the VFW Post 4556. He formerly served as Chairman of The City Planning and Zoning Commission of Pocahontas, and as a city plumbing inspector. Jerry served on the Ozark Gateway Tourism Council board, The Retired Senior Citizen Volunteer Board, SBA Score Program, and was long term Treasurer of the Good Earth Association. Funeral Services will be held Friday, February 8, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Freedom Church, 4144 Highway 67 S, Walnut Ridge, Arkansas with Pastor Don Cook officiating. Interment will follow in the Hunter Cemetery in Hunter, Arkansas at 3:00 p.m. under the direction of Faith Funeral Service with Military Honors. Visitation will be Thursday, February 7, 2013 from 6:00 p.m. till 8:00 p.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to The Children's Shelter of Walnut Ridge, Arkansas. Pallbearers are Larry Guarnett, Rudy Gazaway, Jerry Gilliam, Larry Carter, Frank Chastain, and Red Pearcy.

    Held a private memorial for dear Jerry at my home in Florida. Sent prayers for the family who Inalso love as my own. A great man passed this Sunday but his memories will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Rest In Peach dear Jerry. We'll see ya at the house!
