Muriel Maxine Smith
October 30, 1939 - November 8, 2021

Muriel Maxine Smith, 82 of Jonesboro, Arkansas passed away at NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital on November 8, 2021. She was born on October 30, 1939 in Lake City, Arkansas to Homer and Gladys Short Holloway. Maxine and family moved to Nettelton where she attended school and graduated in 1956 as Salutatorian from Nettelton High School. Maxine worked at ASU college of Engineering as Secretary to Doctor Al Mink from the time of opening until her retirement, 25 years later. She loved the Lord and as a result was selfless in her love for her family and church. Maxine spent many hours serving her church family in many capacities: composing and printing the weekly church bulletin, Sunday school teacher, nursery worker and anything else as she was needed. She loved taking care of her grandchildren and great grandchildren, going on trips with her husband, friends, and family to Branson. She regularly had Sunday meals, holiday meals and special occasion meals for the family. Everyone’s favorite was her Christmas morning brunch. She enjoyed writing inspirational poetry and for many years would write Christmas poems and send to her family and friends. She was a great and faithful friend to many. Survivors include; loving husband of 63 years: Rodney Smith of the home; three children: Karen Moss (Larry) of Jonesboro, Arkansas, Rhonda McKay (Glen) of Batesville, Arkansas, and RJ Smith (Amie) of Jonesboro, Arkansas; one sister: Marcella Pickering of Jonesboro, Arkansas; two brothers: Danny Holloway (Debbie) of Amarillo, Texas and James Holloway of Amarillo, Texas; grandchildren: Chasity Moss, TJ Moss (Rebecca), Kendall Georges (Patrick), Drew Moss (Lindsey), Jaci Moss, Stephanie Hines (David), Shauna McKay, Sara Pickens (Clint), Cooper Sutton (Rachel), Kaileigh Sutton, and Piper Smith; great grandchildren: Ian, Jagger, Stella, Evie, Alia, Logan, Iris, Lauren, Ella, Emery, Emily, Railey, Addysin, Jasper, Ian, Grady, Kayde, Birklee, Levi, Aspyn, and Ace; and a host of other family and friends. She is preceded in death by; parents: Homer and Gladys Short Holloway; one daughter: Tamela Smith. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 13, 2021 at 3:00 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, 2731 Paula Drive, Jonesboro, Arkansas with Glen McKay officiating. The family will receive visitors from 2:00 until service time.
