Jacqueline Dawn Lewis
September 15, 1955 - March 26, 2020

Jacqueline Dawn Lewis, entered into rest on March 26, 2019 at Flo & Phil Jones Hospice House, Jonesboro, Arkansas. Jackie, a natural born hippie, came into this world on September 15, 1955. She was born in Kosciusko County, Indiana to Bobby Joe Lewis and Charlene Joyce Nuell Lewis. She attended Indiana School for the Deaf from ages 4 to 17. After leaving school, she resided in both Indiana and Arkansas with her mother, stepfather, and siblings. Jackie was born with a very rare condition known as Keratitis-Ichthysosis-Deafness Syndrome. There have only been about 100 cases in documented medical history. This never slowed Jackie down from dancing to the beat of a good tune, drinking a Miller High-Life, or enjoying the natural herb Mother Earth provided. She loved all things tie-dye, cats, lava lamps, and peace signs. Throughout the years, Jackie taught her family and friends sign language, and because of this her legacy will continue to live on. Unintentionally, she showed those around her that no matter our disabilities or physical differences, all humans crave the same feeling of love, acceptance, and friendship...and what a wonderful friend she was. Until we meet again, PEACE! Isaiah 35: 4-6 “ Be strong, do not fear; your God will come, he will come with vengeance; with divine retribution he will come to save you. Then will the eye of the blind be opened and the ears of the deaf unstopped. Then will the lame leap like a deer, and the mute tongue shout for joy.” Survivors include her beloved feline companion, Babe. Sisters, Kim Lewis Rogers and husband William Rogers, Rochester, Indiana. Mara Vaughn, Paragould, Arkansas. Brothers Todd Vaughn, Westville, Indiana. Trent Vaughn, Michigan City, Indiana. Sister-in-law, Angelica Tate, Rochester, Indiana. Nieces, Alonda Jenkins, Tiffiney Boles, Kristle Ramsey, Elizabeth Butcher, and Maci Jones. Nephews, Travis Kiggins, Todd Vaughn Jr., Justin Tate, and Adrian Vaughn. Numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, great nieces and nephews and beloved friends. She was preceded in death by her father Bobby Joe Lewis, mother Charlene J. Vaughn, and stepfather Orville G. Vaughn, brother Tommy D. Lewis, sister-in-law Stacey Vaughn, maternal and paternal grandparents. Private graveside services will be held at a later date at IOOF in Rochester, Indiana. Donations/memorials may be made to Flo & Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro, Arkansas. To honor her memory, consider learning the American Sign Language alphabet.
