Dr. Rodney L. Boydstun
March 10, 1943 - March 23, 2019

Dr. Rodney L. Boydstun “Rod,” 76, of Jonesboro passed from this life Saturday, March 23, 2019, at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro surrounded by his loving family. Rod was born to Lealand & Wilda Boydstun on March 10, 1943 in San Diego, California He served for three years in the U.S. Army, where he was proud to receive the Army Commendation Medal. It was during this time that he met the love of his life, Linda (Lynne) Hots, and they were married on April 9, 1966. After his time serving in the Army, Rod completed his BS and MBA from Arkansas State University. Over the next twenty-five years, while working in Public Accounting and Banking, his passion for learning never left. He graduated from the Stonier Graduate School of Banking at Rutgers University, became a Certified Public Accountant and a Certified Fraud Examiner. After his daughters graduated from college, he returned to The University of Texas where, in 1996, he completed his Ph.D. The remainder of his career was devoted to passing on to others what he had learned. Rod taught at Ohio Valley University, McKendree College, and Crowley’s Ridge College. Rod’s greatest passions though were his family and serving God. He was always a faithful member of the Church of Christ and served wherever he was attending by teaching Bible classes, leading singing, and serving as a deacon. He also humbly served as an Elder for three congregations: Westside Church of Christ in Round Rock, Texas, Greenmount Road Church of Christ in Belleville, IL, and most recently at Grace Point Church of Christ in Jonesboro, AR. Rod was a loving husband, father, son and brother but was perhaps most proud of being Papa to seven granddaughters and two great-grandsons. Survivors include Linda (Lynne) Hots Boydstun, his wife of almost 53 years; two daughters, Christina (Randy) Wade of Terre Haute, IN, Toni (Brad) Reed of Duncan, OK; seven granddaughters, Megan (Kyle) Whisenhunt, Sarah (Chris) Whiteman, Emily (Josh) Williams, Brianna Reed, Lauren Wade, Rachel Wade & Jessica Wade; and two great-grandsons Conner Whisenhunt and Andrew Whiteman. Rod is also survived by one sister, Nelda (Max) Tarbet of Florence, AL., five nieces & nephews, and many, many cousins. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on March 30, 2019 at Grace Point Church of Christ, 1405 Old Bridger Road, Jonesboro, AR with his brother-in-law G. Max Tarbet, Dr. Bob Young, David Gibson and Bob Shaw officiating. Interment will be at the Dallas-Ft. Worth National Cemetery, Dallas, TX. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to the building fund at the Grace Point Church of Christ or to the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House of Jonesboro, AR.
