Charles Smith

Mr. Charles Don “Charlie” Smith, age 77 of Caraway, Arkansas, passed peacefully at his home surrounded by his family and friends on Wednesday, September 7, 2016. Born January 6, 1939 in the Mangrum Community near Black Oak, Arkansas, he was the son of the late Marvin Earl and Lou Edith Mooneyham Smith. Mr. Smith was recently baptized at the First Baptist Church in Caraway, Arkansas and was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. Mr. Smith was known as Charlie or Deedaw in his community, and was blessed with a host of fellow farmers, family and friends. He is survived by one granddaughter: Erica Rose and husband Heath of Lake City, Arkansas; four sisters: Barbara Shurley and husband Virgil, Jeanetta Bailey and husband Glenn; Eileen Adams and Margaret Wright and husband John all of Lake City, Arkansas; three brothers: Jimmy Smith and Larry Smith both of Lake City, Arkansas and Kenneth Smith and wife Janice of Jonesboro, Arkansas. Mr. Smith also leaves several nieces and nephews and a host of other family and friends. In addition to his parents, Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his loving wife of 47 years: Donna Smith; one son: Mitchell “Mitt” Wilson; one sister: Norma Pierce and one brother: Lynn Smith. Graveside services will be Friday, September 9, 2016 at 11:00am at the Caraway Cemetery with Brother Rick Stevens officiating. Faith Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers will be Kenny Qualls, John McCord, Cody Weathers, Dwight Whittenburg, Curtis Miller and Kolten Puckett. Honorary Pallbearers will be Kenny Weathers, Hunter Miller, Ronnie Harris, Randy Couch and Ronald Holt. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to the Caraway First Baptist Church.
