Howard Leslie Nelson

Dr. Howard Leslie Nelson, 88, of Jonesboro, died Saturday, September 12, 2015 in Jonesboro. Born in Leachville on September 18, 1926, he was the son of the late Gabe and Eunice Nelson. Dr. Nelson was the dentist in Manila for 40 years and a lifelong resident of Northeast Arkansas. He was a WW II Navy Veteran and was very supportive of veterans' causes. He will always be remembered for his sharp wit, his charitable nature, and his devotion to family. He was a member of the Greensboro Road Church of Christ. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Lynn and Jack; a sister, Mary Linda; and his first wife Mary Trevathan Nelson. He is survived by his wife, Inelda Tipton Nelson of Jonesboro, step-daughter Lisa Houston of Texas, niece Jackie Nelson of Florida, cousin Glen E. Smith of Texas, a host of extended family, as well as his beloved dog Punkin. The body will be cremated. A memorial service will be held at the Greensboro Road Church of Christ at 2008 Old Greensboro Road in Jonesboro on Saturday, September 19, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Howard's memory to Disabled American Veterans (DAV) or Abilities Unlimited in Jonesboro.
