Douglas J Smith

Mr. Douglas J. Smith, 80, of Paragould, Arkansas passed away at his home Monday, September 14, 2015. He was born June 22, 1935 in Paragould, Arkansas to the late Chester and Pearl Shasteen Smith and was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Smith was an owner/operator of Stimson’s Auto Parts store, raised brown cotton, farmed and was a maintenance worker at Arkansas Methodist Hospital in Paragould, Arkansas. He enjoyed fishing and gardening. He was on the Paragould city council for ten years. Mr. Smith is survived by one brother: Glen Smith of St. Louis, Missouri; two sisters: Wanda Arnold of Birmingham, Alabama and Jeanette Welch of Tennessee; one step daughter: Joy Hadwin of Belleville, Michigan; one granddaughter: Elizabeth Cardwell and husband Chayne of Paragould, Arkansas; two grandsons: Justin Hall, Scott Martin of Belleville, Michigan; eight great grandchildren and a host of other family and friends. Preceded in death by his parents; one step daughter: Karla Patterson; wife: Mildred Chandler Smith; wife: Joyce Harmon Smith; one brother: J.A. Smith; and one sister: Wava Hammond. Funeral services will be Friday September 18, 2015 at 10:00am at Browns Chapel Church in Paragould, Arkansas with Bro. Royce Schanda and Pastor Royce Boling officiating. Burial will be in the Linwood Cemetery in Paragould, Arkansas. Visitation will be Thursday evening from 6-8 pm at the church. Faith Funeral Service, Manila, Arkansas will be in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Browns Chapel Church.

    Glen, Wanda and Jeanette. Jo & I were shocked and saddened to hear of Doug's passing. I used to go by the parts store when I went back to visit Mom and Dad, but I don't get back there much anymore, so haven't seen Doug in a few years but still remember all the good times we had out at Bard. Doug was always my protector and kept me from doing more stupid stuff than I did. He will be missed.
