Loyd Vickery

Loyd Roland Vickery, 83, of Brookland, Arkansas went to be with the Lord on Friday July 25, 2014 at NEA Baptist Hospital. Mr. Vickery was born on December 19, 1930 in Arkansas to the late Thomas Richard and Lillie Dickeson Vickery. Mr. Vickery lived most of his young life in Rivervale. He met the love of his life and wife of 58 years, Shirley, and moved to California where they spent 21 years and had two wonderful children. In 1976 Mr. Vickery and his family returned to Arkansas where they continue to live in Brookland, Arkansas. He worked for the Brookland School District where he made many friends and always loved working with the kids. He loved country music and played guitar and sang for many. He was an avid fisherman and was always willing to take his time to teach someone new his favorite past time. Mr. Vickery was a member of Woods Chapel Baptist Church. Survivors include; his wife: Shirley Vickery of the home; one son: Ed Vickery and wife Misti of Jonesboro, Arkansas; one daughter: Connie (Vickery) Newman and husband Bill of Lakewood, California; two grandsons: Jacob and Seth Vickery; three granddaughters: Jennifer Newman, Danielle Newman and Sarah Vickery; two brothers: T.R. Milam of Killeen Texas and Gene Thompson of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and a host of other family and friends. Mr. Vickery was preceded in death by his parents and eighteen brothers and sisters. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at 10:00 am at Woods Chapel Baptist Church, 175 N Highway 230, Brookland, Arkansas with Pastor Rick Hathcoat officiating. Interment will follow at Pine Log Cemetery under the direction of Faith Funeral Service. The family will receive visitors on Tuesday, July 29, 2014 at the church from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm.
