Darryl Lance Allen
February 20, 1947 - May 6, 2022

Darryl Lance Allen, 75, of Jonesboro departed from this life Friday, May 6, 2022, at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House. He had valiantly fought Pancreatic cancer for three years. He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved older brother Charles Allen. He was born in Memphis, TN in 1947 to Guy Eugene and Katherine Allen. As a child, he spent many summers swimming at the Memphis YMCA and became an avid swimmer. In high school, he worked summers at the YMCA as a counselor teaching younger students swimming and gymnastics. When he was a teenager, he spent many enjoyable hours with his father and brothers duck hunting on the Mississippi River and water skiing at Pickwick. Lance always enjoyed spending time with his nieces and nephews, grandchildren, and his family who he deeply loved. He developed a keen interest in electronics in high school and after graduation, he completed a year of studies in Engineering at the University of Memphis before enlisting in the Navy in 1967. The Navy trained him as a radar technician and he served six tours of duty in Vietnam on a light Navy destroyer ship. After discharge, Lance returned to University of Memphis to complete his bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering. He worked at several nuclear plants as a consulting Engineer with Raytheon corporation before returning to Memphis in 1994 to work at Morgan Large Cavitation Channel operated by the U.S. Navy. Lance is survived by his wife of 24 years, Carolyn White Allen; his stepson Brian Morris and his wife Ashley, and grandchildren Sam, Jesse, Lucy and Wyatt. He is also survived by his brother Victor Allen (Jeanne) of Lebanon, TN; and sisters Jeannine Gervis of Southaven, MS and Diane Laird (John) of Cordova, TN, sister-in-law Janice Allen along with many nieces and nephews and their families. Lance will always be remembered with much love. Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 12th in the State Veterans Cemetery - Birdeye/Cherry Valley, Arkansas with Bro. Don Martin officiating. Arrangements were entrusted to Faith Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorials to the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House, St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Shriners Hospital for Children. The family wishes to thank the St. Bernards Home Hospice and the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House nurses for making his last days comfortable with their caring and compassionate care.
