Frequently Asked Questions

Do you have to be embalmed?

No according to the Federal Trade Commission. "Except in certain special cases, embalming is not required by law. Embalming may be necessary, however, if you select certain funeral arrangements, such as a funeral with viewing. If you do not want embalming, you usually have the right to choose an arrangement that does not require you to pay for it, such as direct cremation or immediate burial."

The Arkansas State Board of Health states "REGULATION 8.1 PRESERVATION OF BODIES All dead human bodies not buried within 24 hours after death shall be embalmed in a manner approved by the Arkansas Board of Embalmers and Funeral Directors, or stored under refrigeration at 45 degrees Fahrenheit or less. When a dead body is being cremated, embalming and refrigeration shall not be required for a forty-eight hour period after death unless a health problem dictates otherwise."
